“To Parents and Other Neighbors”

The Wayland High School Theater Ensemble is proud to present their original play, “To Parents and Other Neighbors.” Based on true events, the story unfolds in Wayland during the height of the Red Scare. When an FBI agent delivers a confidential file to the local School Committee, the town is forced to confront a troubling revelation: Anne Hale, a beloved second-grade teacher, was once a member of the Communist Party. As McCarthyism tightens its grip in the spring of 1954, Wayland must wrestle with fear, loyalty, and conscience — and answer a question that divides the community: is Anne Hale fit to teach their children? This unique offering begins with 20–25 minutes of guided breathwork and stretching to ground the body. The journey then flows into a 40–45-minute meditative soundscape performed live on Fiuczynski’s custom double neck guitar tuned to healing frequencies. Unlike traditional sound baths, this experience weaves live performance, microtonal textures, and ambient sound design with mindful movement. $30.

Wayland Community Action Network (WaylandCAN) is thrilled to welcome Dylan Marron, an award-winning writer, producer, and viral TED speaker, on how to engage respectfully across differences. Dylan is the creator and host of the acclaimed podcast “Conversations with People Who Hate Me.” a Webby Award–winning series praised by USA Today, The Guardian, Fast Company, and the Associated Press for its powerful exploration of empathy and human connection. His TED Talk, “Empathy Is Not Endorsement,” has been viewed millions of times worldwide, and he is currently a writer on the critically acclaimed series “Ted Lasso.” Free.

Painting with Watercolor and Oil Pastel with Rahul Ray In this small studio class (maximum of 6 students), participants will develop or refine their painting skills while exploring the expressive qualities of watercolor alongside the bold, colorful versatility of oil pastels. The course will focus on essential artistic foundations—including observation, perspective, scale, and technique — with sketching as an important part of the process. $400.
