Temple Shir Tikva presented its inaugural Hero Among Us award, an annual honor recognizing individuals from the broader community who have made a meaningful difference, to former Wayland Police Chief Ed Burman during Shabbat services on March 13, followed by a festive celebration in his honor.
Award recipients are not members of Temple Shir Tikva, but are chosen for leadership, generosity, and service that positively impact the synagogue and the MetroWest community.
Throughout his tenure in Wayland, Burman has been a supportive and trusted partner to Temple Shir Tikva, and many others. “He has consistently made himself available to our leaders, answering questions, responding to concerns, and often reaching out proactively to ensure the safety and well-being of our congregation,” Senior Rabbi Danny Burkeman said.
His commitment to building relationships and supporting faith communities has been felt not only at Temple Shir Tikva but across Wayland’s many congregations, Burkeman added. “Wayland’s religious communities have been fortunate to have someone so deeply committed to looking after all of us.”
