Wayland Muslim Neighbors, a locally founded group of Muslim residents dedicated to participating in and strengthening civic life in Wayland, hosted a community iftar dinner on March 10 at the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland.
The gathering welcomed neighbors along with local leaders, including the police chief, town officials, and school administrators and principals. The evening began with a welcome and a brief Qur’an recitation by local youth, followed by remarks from community speakers and small table discussions designed to encourage conversation across backgrounds.
As part of the discussion, guests reflected on questions such as, “What inner qualities do you think the world needs more of right now, and how do we cultivate them in everyday life?” and “Have you ever chosen to give something up or limit yourself in a way that changed how you saw yourself or others?”
At sunset, guests joined in the traditional iftar, the meal Muslims share to break the daily fast during the month of Ramadan. Guests also had the opportunity to observe the sunset prayer, followed by dinner and informal conversation.
Organizers said the event aimed to give neighbors an opportunity to learn about Ramadan traditions, strengthen relationships, and foster a spirit of community.
