Roderick Brant, 81, passed away on April 4, in Sarasota, Fla. Born in Toronto, Rod grew up with three sisters in Arizona and Connecticut. He attended Hobart College, where he lettered in basketball and golf, and later flew helicopters in Vietnam and for the Massachusetts National Guard.
He met Lynne Margonelli, his wife of 44 years, in 1973, and with her, raised two children, Taryn Brant Bowe and Logan Brant, in Wayland. Rod worked in commercial real estate, but was most proud of his volunteer work at The Bridge House, a halfway house for men in Framingham, where he served as chairman of the board for 10 years.
He always said he was very lucky to be able to schedule his business demands around his kids’ athletic schedules. In his last decade, after Lynne’s passing, Rod shared his life with Sue Hokamp and their beloved pets.
He loved fly fishing, golf, basketball, reading history, striking up conversations with strangers, remembering his parents, Lilli and Arthur Brant, stockpiling sweets, and gently teasing the people he loved, including his three grandchildren, Mallory, Nolan and Everett; and his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Matthew Bowe and Renee Hall Brant. Friends and family will celebrate his life at a Memorial gathering this summer on Orrs Island, Maine
