To update the April 17 story in the Wayland Post, “Article 25: debate over Route 20 West Zoning,” on the April 8 joint meeting of Planning Board delegates and Economic Development Committee (EDC):
On April 10, EDC discussed again its concern about the risk to Wayland of potential 58-foot (up to 5.5-story) buildings within 30 feet of Route 20. EDC reviewed and voted for a revised, one-sentence amendment to Article 25 and forwarded to the Planning Board for consideration.
On April 13, the Finance Committee, who rescinded their prior 7-0 approval, reviewed Article 25 again (no amendment). They voted against, voicing similar height and location concerns.
Current votes on Article 25: Planning Board is 5-0 in favor; Select Board is 2-3 against, Finance Committee is 1-3-2 against (prior 7-0 rescinded), and the EDC has had two unanimous votes saying that an amendment is needed.
On April 15, the Planning Board declined to adopt any zoning amendment, which leaves all height and setback concerns unresolved. The current article will stand as is. Good density is key for Wayland’s future. So is good design and full information.
