Many of the Wayland High School spring sports teams recently concluded their respective regular season schedules and immediately turned to the playoffs this week.
The hottest team is boys volleyball, which is in the middle of a 13-game winning streak. The run helped the Warriors secure the #1 seed in the Division 2 boys volleyball tournament, which was announced on Tuesday. Wayland (18-2) will host the winner of Thursday’s Pioneer Charter School of Science-North Middlesex Regional tilt, at a time to be determined.
Last year the volleyball team, seeded third, lost in the state championship game, 3-1 to Agawam, and finished 16-9.
Thanks to a strong regular season schedule the girls lacrosse team earned a fifth seed, despite a 9-9 record. The Warriors will host Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Warriors advanced to the final four last year, losing to eventual champion Medfield.
Both the boys and girls tennis teams will start their respective tournaments this week. The boys, seeded second, welcome the winner of the Pelham-Amherst Regional vs. Dighton-Rehobeth match, on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Warriors girls tennis open the Division 2 tournament on Wednesday when they host 20th-seeded Dartmouth at 4 p.m. Wayland is seeded 13th.
Both tennis teams hope to advance further than last year when the girls lost in the finals, 3-2 to Longmeadow, and the boys fell in the round of eight.
The softball team has qualified for the tournament but the brackets have yet to be announced.
