WAYLAND — Acting Chief Mark Hebert reports that the Wayland Police Department and mutual aid partners responded to a report of a vehicle submerged in Lake Cochituate on Saturday.

A fisherman reported the discovery of a submerged vehicle at 4:32 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.
A Massachusetts State Police Dive Team responded to the scene to examine the vehicle and its contents.
After the Dive Team entered the water to take a closer look, they determined the vehicle was an unoccupied Nissan Frontier with Maryland plates.
“The vehicle has no apparent connection to anyone in Massachusetts, so far,” said Acting Chief Hebert. “The Massachusetts State Police will be taking over the investigation, since the vehicle was found on state property.”
Lake Cochituate is part of Cochituate State Park in Natick and Wayland.
It is currently unknown how long the vehicle was submerged or whether it was occupied when it entered the water.
An investigation is underway.
