A local fisherman discovered a submerged vehicle while on Lake Cochituate on Saturday afternoon.
Wayland police and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene around 5 p.m. A Massachusetts State Police Dive Team determined the vehicle was an unoccupied Nissan Frontier with Maryland plates.
“The vehicle has no apparent connection to anyone in Massachusetts so far,” said Wayland Acting Chief Mark Hebert. “Massachusetts State Police will be taking over the investigation, since the vehicle was found on state property.”
In a press release, Hebert said he didn’t know how long the vehicle was submerged or whether it was occupied when it entered the water. An investigation is underway. State Police Sgt. Gregory Jones said it appears “the truck had been in the water for some time.”
