WHS students perform in prestigious choirs
WHS choral students Ariana Price and Maggie Agyeman performed in Honor Choirs this year.
Maggie performed this spring with the All-Eastern ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Contemporary A Cappella Honor Choir in Providence.
Ariana performed with the National Heritage Honors Choir at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Grammy award-winning choral conductor, Dr. Jeffery Redding. Both students were selected from auditions submitted by hundreds of high school students.
Wayland residents graduate from Colgate
The following Wayland residents recently graduated from Colgate University:
Sofia Barris graduated with a B.A. in political science, magna cum laude.
Sophia Ellenbogen graduated with a B.A. in neuroscience, magna cum laude
Charles Geddes graduated with a B.A. in mathematical economics, magna cum laude
Luciano Sebastianelli graduated with a B.A. in Chinese and international relations.
Academic recognition
Benjamin De Feria was named to the University of Alabama dean’s list for spring semester 2026.
Lilly O’Driscoll was named to the College of Charleston’s spring 2026 president’s list. O’Driscoll is majoring in psychology.
Elizabeth Powers has been named to the president’s list at James Madison University for the spring 2026 semester. Powers is majoring in Health Science
Springfield College has named Xoren Livingston to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the 2026 spring semester. Livingston’s primary major is applied exercise science.
Volunteer sought for FD staffing group
The Town of Wayland is seeking one resident to serve on the Fire Department Staffing Working Group.
Municipal Resources Inc. completed a Fire Department Staffing Analysis in March 2026. The study was conducted to evaluate whether our current fire and emergency medical services delivery system is appropriately aligned with community risk, service demand, and operational expectations. Based on these points, 35 recommendations were made by MRI. The full report can be found at tinyurl.com/MRI-staffing.
The working group will review the study, prioritize recommendations and report findings and recommendations to the Town Manager. The working group will consist of the fire chief, assistant fire chief, a member of the Fire Department, Fire Union representative, Select Board representative, Finance Committee representative, Human Resources representative and a community member.

Pool mural fundraiser
A broad coalition of Wayland groups and citizens — including Arts Wayland, Wayland Pool, WaylandCAN, the DEI Committee, Wayland High School, and community partners — is working together to fund a permanent mural at the Wayland Community Pool. The project transforms a site previously marked by hate graffiti into a welcoming public artwork. Donate at tinyurl.com/pool-mural.

The Wayland Health Department is reminding residents to take precautions to keep themselves safe from ticks and reduce the risk of tick-borne illnesses. Ticks are found in wooded and bushy areas near the ground. Common ticks in Massachusetts include deer ticks (which can carry Lyme disease) and American dog ticks. Also now being seen in New England are Lone Star ticks, which have a singular white dot on the back, can cause alpha-gal syndrome (meat allergy) in humans.
