Prepare to discuss the world! Join our current events discussion group. Preparation involves reading an eight-page article from the Great Decisions Briefing Book. Our meetings consist of a 20-minute documentary film screening and lively, peer-facilitated discussion on the most critical global issues facing America today.

Music of America’s Foundation

Town Green (400 Boston Post Road)

Join us for Music of America’s Foundation, an afternoon celebrating the soundtrack of America’s history, authentically performed by the Red Horse Oldtime Stringband. The free outdoor concert experience is at Town Green at Wayland Center. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of live traditional music in a relaxed, community setting. Guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments. Presented by Arts Wayland in partnership with WaylandRev250, Wayland Museum Historical Society, Wayland Park and Rec, and Wayland Town Center.

Explore the complex layers of our history through Frederick Douglass’ powerful words. Wayland resident and facilitator Dr. Eden Reneé-Hayes (Dr. E) of Pluralism Solutions will lead a communal reading and discussion of the abridged “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” All voices welcome. Grow Your Own Mushrooms Workshop

Participants will learn from Heather Fisher, owner of Little Room Mushrooms, about the mushroom growing process, make their own mushroom grow bags, and take home two types of mushrooms to grow at home. Walk away with directions, recipes, and a new appreciation of our fungal friends!

Water and Acrylic Workshop

Arts Wayland (35 Andrew Ave.)

First of multiple sessions: Develop or refine your painting skills in watercolor and acrylics with Dr. Rahul Ray in this welcoming eight-week studio class. Participants will build a strong foundation in observation, perspective, scale, composition, and painting techniques through guided exercises and individualized instruction. Students will work with a variety of subjects, including still life, landscape, and portraiture, while exploring the unique qualities of both acrylic and watercolor. Acrylics offer vibrant color and versatility, while watercolor instruction helps make a challenging medium accessible and rewarding for all levels. $400. Register at www.artswayland.com.
