ZBA seeks two associate members
Have a hand in shaping the character of your community without a full-time commitment. The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is seeking two associate members to step in as needed, helping guide decisions that influence how our town grows, evolves, and retains its unique charm.
Associate members take part in public hearings, share perspectives on zoning matters, and vote when needed to form a quorum. Appointed by the Select Board for three-year terms, they play a key role in balancing thoughtful development with preserving the qualities that make our town such a special place to live.

A fun summer project: paint a fire hydrant
Put your creativity to work and make some public art on a Wayland fire hydrant. Individuals, families, groups, and organizations can register to paint a fire hydrant (or more than one) to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Paint kits are available, or use your own.
Guidelines specify the type of paint (oil-based enamel paint for metal), and how to ensure that your artwork doesn’t interfere with the hydrant’s function. Some colors are prohibited, all black, all white, or dark camouflage green, for example, and no words or logos are allowed. To register, select hydrant(s) that are not already painted and e-mail Select Board member Tom Fay at tfay@wayland.ma.us. He will send you the guidelines and the agreement for hydrant sponsors to sign.
195 Main St. meeting
195 Main St. is presently the vacant site of the former DPW garage, which has been undergoing testing by CMG Environmental Inc. due to site contamination. A Public Involvement Plan (PIP) Public Meeting will be held virtually Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. Discussion topics include but are not limited to the following:
Additional monitoring well installation
Seasonal changes in groundwater flow
Recent results of PFAS testing
Expanded “site” size
Likely sources of PFAS contamination
Scope of work for Phase II Comprehensive Assessment
Next DEP submissions

42 from Wayland to tackle Pan-Mass Challenge
Reporter (part-time/freelance)
The Wayland Post, a nonprofit community newspaper, seeks a detail-oriented reporter to cover local government, schools, and community issues. Responsibilities include attending evening meetings, reviewing agendas and public documents, and producing accurate, fact-based articles on deadline.
Qualifications: Strong writing and reporting skills; ability to work independently; familiarity with municipal government preferred.
Compensation: Stipend per article; consistent contributors have opportunity for regular assignments.

Business Development/ Advertising Sales (part-time)
The Wayland Post is seeking a motivated individual to grow advertising and sponsorship revenue. Responsibilities include outreach to local businesses, developing ad packages, and building long-term relationships with community partners.
Qualifications: Strong communication skills; sales or marketing experience preferred; self-starter comfortable working independently.
Compensation: Commission-based with recurring revenue share.

Donor Management/Event Planning Coordinator (part-time)
The Wayland Post is seeking an organized, community-minded individual to help manage donor relationships and support fundraising events. Responsibilities include maintaining donor records, assisting with donor outreach, helping plan and coordinate fundraising events, tracking sponsorship opportunities, and supporting follow-up with contributors and community partners.
Qualifications: Strong communication and organizational skills; experience with fundraising, donor management, event planning, nonprofit administration, or community outreach preferred. Must be detail-oriented and comfortable working independently.
Compensation: Part-time, flexible arrangement; stipend, hourly, or performance-based compensation depending on experience and scope.
Diane Murnane, 1949–2026
Alan Chartoff
Alan S. Chartoff, 76, of Wayland, died on June 21, 2026. He was born on Aug. 16, 1949.
Chartoff is survived by his wife, Gail Chmara Chartoff; his sons, Seth Chartoff (Allie) and Adam Chartoff (Eddie Paris); his grandchildren, Juliette and Evan; and his sister Nancy (Marc Ross). He was predeceased by his parents, Sadie Chartoff (Alderman) and Frank Chartoff.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence.
Bessie Ladoulis
Bessie N. (Booras) Ladoulis, 94, of Wayland, died on June 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late William T. Ladoulis who died in 2024; devoted mother of Lauren Perlman and her husband, Noah of Sudbury; Carol Inturralde and her husband, Terrence Graf of Framingham; Sandra Brennan and her husband, Matthew of Wayland; and Janet Nicosia and her husband, Edward of North Reading; sister of Stella Constas and her husband, Charles. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
