For children A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. When kids sign up, they’ll receive their very own Summer Reading Lanyard. They can then track their reading online or on paper logs. If they show a children’s librarian their reading progress, they can earn buttons to decorate their lanyard. They’ll also have the chance to win fun prizes!
To kick off Summer Reading, we’re hosting Henry the Juggler on June 17.
Every Monday starting June 22 we’ll have Make and Play Crafting. Each week kids will make something they can take home and use, like Play-Doh or bubble wands. Other programming highlights include: “Reading with Worms,” “Stomp, Chomp and Read! Magic Show with Jungle Jim,” “Amazing Live Animals” with Joy from Joys of Nature, “All About Bees! Beekeeping,” a family concert with the Toe Jam Puppet Band Show, a K-Pop Demon Hunters Party, a stuffed animal sleepover, and a chalk obstacle course.
For teens Teen/tween program highlights include: 3D Printing DnD Mini Figures, two DnD One-Shots, After Hours Werewolf and Capture the Flag, Anime Club, two Switch tournaments, Crafting Felt Carnivorous Plants, a Comics Making Workshop with Jonathan Todd, and a Teen Trivia Night. Teens can track their reading online or on paper bingo sheets for the chance to win weekly raffle prizes. All participants are invited to an Ice Cream Social on Aug. 13.
For adults The library will have a Summer Reading Program just for adults! Adults can join the summer reading challenge by picking up a bingo board at the library starting on June 15. Complete a bingo square by reading a book and receiving a ticket entry. If you complete a straight line of five squares on your board, show it to a staff member and receive five additional tickets. Each week, there will be a ticket drawing for one winner to receive a $10 gift card to a local business. At the end of summer reading, there will be a grand ticket drawing for one lucky winner to receive a $50 gift card. The more bingo lines you complete throughout the summer, the higher the chance of winning a grand prize gift card.
There is a robust lineup of programs for adults as well. We are kicking off summer reading for adults with a Moroccan Zellij Mosaic Workshop on June 17. There will also be Collage Journaling workshops for adults to get crafty.
Eager to learn how to grow and take care of plants? Join us for Cactus & Succulents 101 as well as a Community Seed Swap. We will also offer a presentation on how to grow your own mushrooms. It all wraps up with an Ice Cream Celebration for adults and families on Aug. 14 with games and treats.
