All establishments licensed to serve or sell alcohol are required to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC), as well as local licensing authorities.
Preventing alcohol access by individuals under the age of 21 remains a top priority. Your staff must continue to carefully check valid identification, remain alert for fraudulent IDs, and refuse service to anyone who cannot legally purchase alcohol. The Town of Wayland requires that everyone who serves alcohol must have an approved training course, such as TIPS.
Massachusetts law prohibits serving alcohol to intoxicated individuals. Over-serving not only puts patrons at risk but also exposes establishments to civil liability and potential criminal penalties.
We encourage all staff to remain attentive to signs of impairment and to prioritize safety when making service decisions. The Wayland Police Department will continue to remain diligent in reporting last drink locations to the ABCC when we enforce alcohol related offenses such as operating under the influence.
The Wayland Police Department will be doing compliance checks over the next month to ensure that local businesses are complying with all alcohol regulations.
