Nearly 200 residents gathered at Wayland High School for a bold and refreshing event hosted by Wayland Community Action Network (WaylandCAN) that centered on the power of engaging across differences.
Featured speaker Dylan Marron, known for his breakthrough podcast, “Conversations with People Who Hate Me” and his award-winning writing on “Ted Lasso,” shared insights from his unique practice of reaching out to individuals who have directed hurtful or hostile comments toward him online. Through candid storytelling, Marron offered 10 lessons on empathy, vulnerability, and what it takes to remain in conversations many would instinctively avoid.
Blending humor with honesty, Marron’s approach resonated deeply with attendees.
His message was clear: while meaningful connection across divides is not easy, it remains possible and essential. WaylandCAN was created out of a recognition that community doesn’t take care of itself. We have to show up for it, especially in the moments that feel uncomfortable.
