Wayland To Honor Our Fallen Heroes

Wayland, MA – The Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee is proud to announce the 2026

Wayland Memorial Day Program will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Brief tributes in remembrance of Wayland’s fallen veterans will be offered throughout the morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Wayland Veterans Memorial (Wayland Town Building). For the schedule, including times and locations of these brief ceremonies, please click here.

The parade will start from Wayland Middle School at 11:00 a.m. proceeding along Main Street (Route 27 South) to Commonwealth Road (Route 30 West) and end at Wayland’s Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate (off Commonwealth Road). This year’s parade Grand Marshal is Carl Bernarndo.

Wayland’s Ceremony of Remembrance will follow at the conclusion of the parade at Lakeview Cemetery (off Route 30/Commonwealth Ave) at approximately 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

This year’s ceremony will feature a number of speakers, including Doug Levine, Select Board Vice Chair, Senator James Eldridge, Representative David Linsky and the reading of the Gettysburg Address by Wayland High School Student Nathaniel Hopper.

Lieutenant Commander Craig Gruber, USN, will give the Keynote Address. A full biography of Lieutenant Commander Craig Gruber can be found here.

Wayland High School Band, directed by Joe Oneschuk, will perform the National Anthem. The Ceremony of Remembrance will conclude with the playing of Eternal Father, Strong to Save (The Navy Hymn) performed by the Wayland High School Band, Echo Taps performed by Wayland High School Trumpeters, and a Rifle Salute by the American Legion Post #133 Firing Detail.

In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and the Memorial Day Service will be held indoors at 11:00 a.m. in the Wayland High School Gymnasium. For confirmation of cancellation, please contact Richard Turner at (508) 358-5398 after 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026.
