Alcohol compliance monitored

The Wayland Police Department will be doing compliance checks over the next month to ensure that local businesses are complying with all alcohol regulations. All establishments licensed to serve or sell alcohol are required to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC), as well as local licensing authorities.

Staff must continue to carefully check valid identification, remain alert for fraudulent IDs, and refuse service to anyone who cannot legally purchase alcohol. The Town of Wayland requires that everyone who serves alcohol must have an approved training course such as TIPS.

Massachusetts law prohibits serving alcohol to intoxicated individuals. Over-serving not only puts patrons at risk but also exposes establishments to civil liability and potential criminal penalties. The Wayland Police Department will continue to remain diligent in reporting last drink locations to the ABCC when they enforce alcohol-related offenses such as operating under the influence.

Town gets culvert grant

Wayland has secured a $150,000 state grant to advance culvert work tied to chronic flooding problems, particularly on Loker Street. Town officials and regional reporting indicated the funding will support final design work intended to reduce roadway flooding during heavy storms.
